Taxes

A financial charge or levy that is imposed on a legal entity, person, or subnational entity is known as a tax.  Taxes consist of indirect and direct tax and must be paid as either unpaid labor or in money.  Taxes are levied in money in modern capitalist taxation systems.  If taxes that are owed are not paid in full, civil penalties may be inflicted upon the individual, such as being required to forfeit something or having to pay large fines.  In more severe cases, not paying taxes may result in criminal penalties, such as jail time.

The main four purposes of taxation are redistribution, re-pricing, revenue, and representation.  The main purpose of taxing individuals is to raise money for things such as hospitals, roadway construction and repairs, schooling, justice systems, and more.  In most nations, taxation gives governments the power, as well as the responsibility, to maintain the best interests of the public and the nation.  For this reason, the more public support each nation decides to offer their citizens, the more taxation each individual experiences.

Another purpose of taxing individuals is for re-pricing purposes.  For example, tobacco products are taxed to discourage people from smoking, and so on and so fourth.  From this vice tax, the local, state, and federal governments acquire a large margin of taxation dollars.  These governments then utilize the re-pricing of one person’s vice to aid or improve the community as whole.  Redistribution is another purpose of taxing.  Usually, this means transferring funds from richer areas to the poorer areas.  Although this is acceptable in most democracies, it is still a controversial issue when it comes how often this should actually be happening.

Finally, another effect of taxes is representation, which is based off the American revolutionary slogan "no taxation without representation.”  Various studies have shown that direct taxation (for example: income taxes) generates better governance and the greatest degree of accountability.  On the other hand, indirect taxation usually has smaller effects.  Do you have any other questions regarding taxation?  A capital investment adviser can help you with your tax related issues.  If you need any help regarding tax issues, speaking with a Capital Investment Advisor is recommended and could potentially save you and your family a myriad of hassles and money.
